BUG STOOL

Bug is a stool conceived from a research into the possibilities of recycled plastic as a primary material for furniture design. The project investigates how HDPE — high-density polyethylene, one of the most common plastics found in waste streams — can be transformed into an object with a considered aesthetic and a clear formal identity.

The stool draws from Italian archetypal forms, exaggerating structural elements to arrive at a simple but iconic silhouette. The result is a piece that carries the visual language of urban environments while remaining functional and spatially distinctive. Each circular seat is composed of 1.2 kg of collected plastic, predominantly bottle caps recovered from waste.

The bright colour is not incidental: it is a deliberate formal choice that gives the object a lively presence, positioning it at the boundary between furniture and furnishing accessory, capable of defining the space around it.
